Charles “Chuck” Young Jr, age 68, passed away on October 14, 2024, due to complications from diabetes and kidney disease. Chuck was born on April 27, 1956, in Savanna, IL, to Charles and Verda Young. Following graduation from Savanna High School in 1974, Chuck decided to move to Wyoming to pursue employment in the mining industry. After settling in Kemmerer, WY, he met the love of his life, Glenda Joslin, and they were married on February 11, 1977, and had two sons, Jeremy and Brandon.
Chuck loved living in Kemmerer and was quick to make friends. He was always active in his community and found ways to serve throughout his life including years of service as a volunteer firefighter, baseball coach, hospital board member, and senior citizen center board member. He also had multiple different employment opportunities throughout his life including working at the coal mine, self employed printer and newspaper publisher, and county jailer and dispatcher.
Chuck had a strong testimony of, and relationship with, his Savior, Jesus Christ, and was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints following his baptism in 1977. On July 3, 1987, Chuck, Glenda, Jeremy and Brandon were sealed as an eternal family in the Salt Lake City Temple. Chuck also loved serving in the Church and had an opportunity to hold both stake and ward level callings, including second counselor in the Fossil Butte Ward Bishopric.
Living in Illinois and Wyoming, Chuck had a strong love of the outdoors and spent many hours on the Mississippi River and in the Rocky Mountains. He also loved baseball and spent many years as part of the Kemmerer Little League and Babe Ruth organizations. He loved coaching his sons, and their friends, and had a positive impact on many of their lives through this endeavor. Chuck was an avid fan of Major League Baseball and especially of the Chicago Cubs and Atlanta Braves. In recent years, he was able to attend games in both Wrigley Field in Chicago and Coors Field in Denver. Chuck also loved to do woodworking and spent countless time in his backyard workshop building furniture, turning bowls and pens, and working on a variety of crafting projects.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Glenda, sons Jeremy of Riverton, UT, with his wife Helen and children Kiley and Zach; and Brandon of Herriman, UT, with his wife Julie and children Landon, Jaden, Hailey, Sierra and Brooklyn and grandchild Noah; as well as his sisters Carol Carey of Cumming, Georgia, and Lova Lea Thompson of Greeley, Colorado, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
