Russ Point passed away on February 13, 2024, at his home in Rock Port, TX.
He was born in New Braunfels, TX in 1944 to Wilbur O. Point and Juanita T. James. He grew up and spent most of his younger life in Texas before moving to Wyoming in the 1970’s.
In 1977, he married Judy Schaechterle. They were married for 35 years. Russ worked in construction before landing his longtime job at Utah Power and Light starting as a journeyman electrician then working his way up to a supervisory position. After retirement, he resided on the coast of Texas in the winter coming back to Wyoming in the summertime.
Russ enjoyed camping, fishing, and snowmobiling with family and friends and going on adventures with his friend Don Perkins. He was an accomplished scuba diver and later became an instructor. He went on dive trips with wife Judy to the Cayman Islands and various parts of the United States. In 1984, he and Don Perkins dove Jenny Lake in Jackson, WY and discovered a petrified underwater forest. Their adventures only got more fun and interesting from there including assisting Don on his ship the Coral Star in Panama. He was also a longtime member of the local search and rescue.
Russ is survived by his daughter Heather Britain of Riverton, WY; granddaughter Britney Klippert of Knoxville, TN; sister-in-law Sylvia Schaechterle (Gene Schaechterle) of Kemmerer, WY; brother-in-law Abby Schaechterle (Charlene) of Lake City, MN; and his best Pomeranian buddy Taco.
He is proceeded in death by his parents Wilbur and Juanita Point; wife Judy Point; sister Sharon; son Allen Luce; brother-in-law Gene Schaechterle.
Interment will be South Lincoln Cemetery in Kemmerer, WY. Graveside services will be conducted on Friday, July 26, 2024 at 11:00 AM at the South Lincoln Cemetery, Kemmerer, WY.
