Mountain View

Raphael Lewis Balser, lovingly known as Ray, was born on July 6, 1942, in Toledo, Ohio, and passed away peacefully at his home in Mountain View, Wyoming, on December 11, 2024, at the age of 82.

The second son of Robert Virgil and Margaret Elizabeth “Betty” Balser, Ray grew up alongside his brothers, Greg and John “Tom” Balser. His life was a testament to determination and ingenuity. After serving honorably in the United States Air Force, he embarked on a diverse career that included roles as a Journeyman Electrician at the trona mines for 26 years, a semi-truck driver, a railroad worker, and in construction. Ever resourceful, Ray built a sturdy two-story family house from a modest mobile home—an enduring symbol of his creativity and devotion to his family. He also enjoyed working with technology and took pride in servicing his own vehicles.

Ray shared 56 beautiful years of marriage with his wife, Judith Ann Balser, in Wyoming. Together they raised six children: Joshua; Jacob (Bethany); Jeannie (Steve) Krupp; Jason (Nickie); Jarrod (Trista); and Jesse (Viola). He was also the father of Margaret Sampson from a previous marriage. Preceded in death by his daughter Jeannie and grandson Robert, Ray’s legacy lives on through his 19 grandchildren—Rebekah, Caden, Preston, Cora (Danny), Ethan, Lucas, Ian, Elaina, Gentry (Vanessa), Alexia (Nathan), Devun, Jaydun, Lacy, Netallia, Alexander, Addison, Jasmine, and Daniel—and three great-grandchildren: Olivia, Quinnlee, and Sydney.

A devout Bible scholar and teacher at Bridger Valley Assembly of God church in Urie, Wyoming, Ray embraced his faith with wisdom and humility. His favorite scripture was Romans 8:1-2 "There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, [who] hath made me free from the law of sin and death." He found joy in fishing and hunting amid the mountains he cherished deeply.

Ray’s steadfast faith and tireless work ethic leave an indelible mark on all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort and inspiration to those he leaves behind.

A memorial celebration of life will be held in the summer of 2025.  At Ray's request, cremation has taken place under the entrusted care of Ball Family Chapel, Kemmerer, WY
